Club history
Beamsville Lawn Bowling Club was founded in 1920. the original property was from King Street to the south to Park Avenue on the north.
Lawn bowling began in Beamsville while the Spanish flu was still a threat. Municipal and Provincial authorities tried to save lives by prohibiting public gatherings and by isolating the sick, however, this had little effect on the outbreak.
Not much is known about the early years in Beamsville. We do know that it took 6 years to get the site in shape for bowling to begin.
In 1926 members delivered (bowled) the first bowls. Only men bowled at this time in history. They wore white shirts, vest and tie and very nice hats while bowling. They were winning tournaments and winners had their names engraved on trophies by 1926.
In 1933 Beamsville Lawn Bowling Club joined the Lincoln County League which is today known as District Six. The clubhouse was built in 1933.
In 1936 the Ladies section was organized. Bowling in skirts of course. Membership grew from 36 – 71 members.
1938 water service was installed.
1950 a sewer line was installed. A relief to the neighbours who were letting the club hook in to their septic tank.
1962 another section (house) was added to the clubhouse.
Many more improvements over the years with much hard work and determination on the part of the club members.
Hard work by the clubs’ members continues today to keep this sport alive in Beamsville.
Lawn bowling
Lawn bowling is a precision sport that involves rolling bowls to get closest to a target ball, known as the jack. The game is enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
